The Best Foods to Eat Before You Exercise

Many dietitians and professional athletes say that the key to a great work out is actually a great meal. Generally, people don’t eat before they exercise, because either they don’t know what to eat or they just don’t have the time. However, there are a number of nutritious meals you can eat before some physical activity. In fact, it is important to keep your stomach full with the right food in order to keep your body balanced and to have an adequate amount of energy to keep you going. Here are some of the best foods to eat before you exercise.

Oatmeal is a great work out food, especially in the morning, before work. Oatmeal is rich with carbohydrates to keep your energy going super early in the morning for a great kick-start before work. You can even add some strawberries or bananas to add some healthy sugars to your bloodstream to really get things going.

Another energy rich pre-work out snack is an egg sandwich. Eggs are great because they are energy rich and combined with the carbohydrate rich bread; you have great fuel for a successful exercise session. You mainly want to find bread that isn’t too bleached – so white bread is out. Try and find whole wheat or multigrain bread for the most nutrients.

A little cappuccino is another way to receive much needed exercise fuel, because it is just the right amount of caffeine. You don’t want to drink a large coffee or a latte, because the excess sugars and caffeine might get you a little burned out. Just a taste of caffeine and you should be fine.

Yogurt is perfect fuel for any pre-work out ritual. Yogurt is full of nutrients, carbs and necessary proteins to keep your energy high during exercise. You might want to add some fruit to really add some extra work out power.

Also, protein shakes to lose weight, are a great way to quickly take down something substantial – especially if you don’t have all the time in the world. This can be said for smoothies too. Often times you can make these the night before and have them ready before you run out the door. Some great fruit to add to your shake or smoothie can include bananas, acai berries, strawberries, and even blueberries. Generally, the more colors the better. You can also mix in a few vegetables too, like kale.

Another great, substantial pre-work out meal is an easy-to-make bagel and cream cheese. If you are on the go a lot, a bagel and cheese can be an excellent way to get some energy rich, carbohydrate filled sustenance. This is another meal you can make the night before or you can pick up some fresh bagels. Sometimes you can find bagels with a little bit more flavor, like blueberry and cinnamon raisin.

Lastly, the key in finding the best foods before you exercise is discovering dishes that don’t have too much sugar or caffeine. You want to find the right balance of protein and carbohydrates so that you can have the most energy, not burnout and have a successful work out.
