5 Tips for Staying Active and Fit When You Have a Desk Job

When you spend your days inside an office, sitting at a desk, it can be tough to find ways to make sure that you’re staying in good shape. Keeping your body active is a really important part of physical fitness, and when you’re in good shape, you feel better in a number of different ways. You usually wind up looking a bit better, too. But for those of us who have a hefty commute to an eight-hour shift that sees us sitting behind a desk every single day, it can be seriously tough to find the time required to get in the right kind of workout that you need to counterbalance your relatively sedentary lifestyle. Thankfully enough, there are a few pretty easy tips that can see you boosting your activity levels and increasing your fitness level in the process. Staying in good shape doesn’t have to mean that you spend a lot of money on an expensive gym membership, or that you devote hours of your day to working out. With these tips in mind, you can increase your fitness level without having to do too much in the way of adjusting your daily routine.

1. Walk a Little Extra on Your Way to Work. This is an easy option whether you drive to work or take public transportation. Either way, cut your trip short every morning and make yourself walk for a few blocks before you’re able to actually get to the office. If you can figure out how to give yourself an extra thirty to forty-five minutes of brisk walking each day, you’ll actually be able to do quite a bit for yourself in terms of increasing your physical fitness. You’ll start to both look and feel better in no time.

2. Give Yourself a Lunch Break Workout Session. If you do have a gym membership, but have trouble finding the time to actually make use of it, try spending your lunch breaks in a different way. It’s actually pretty easy to consume healthy foods throughout your work day, and if you do this you don’t need to spend thirty minutes eating when your lunch break arrives. Instead, you can head to the gym or to the local park and get a good workout in. This will not only have you feeling physically fit, but will help to give you a little energy boost that helps you get through the rest of the day.

3. Improve Your Posture in a Serious Way. Believe it or not, seriously improving your posture can help you feel better and can help you have a much easier time when it comes to getting yourself in shape. Sit up straight and keep those shoulders back while you’re at work. Indiviudals who work at a desk all day can have a tendency to get kind of hunched over. Avoid this, and keep your posture looking good; you’ll have a much easier time getting in good shape and staying that way if you do.

4. Take a Walk Every So Often. You might do well to get up every hour or two and take a brisk walk around the office. It doesn’t have to be more than five minutes long. You’ll really help yourself out, though, if you can make sure to get up, move around, and get your blood pumping every so often. This is good simply for the sake of making sure that you don’t sit still in the same place for too long.

5. Eat Better Foods While You Work. If you’re wanting to give yourself a lunch break workout session, you will probably want to avoid sitting down for a half-hour-long meal when you take that break. If you want to do this, it’s smart to feed yourself throughout your workday, but make sure you’re eating natural, healthy foods that aren’t processed or heavy. Things like nuts and fruits are great, and this habit will also help you do better on the next at home cholesterol test you administer. Not every employment opportunity will see you staying in shape and getting a lot of exercise, but with these tips in mind, you can make sure you stay fit while you work at any desk job.
